Welcome
Inspired Leadership is a blog to provide a collection of my thoughts on leadership. I have helped numerous executives including general managers, department heads and supervisors over the years with various HR and operational matters and I find myself being driven to help those in and outside of the companies I have worked for.
I often find parallels in the things we do in life so you will find a collection of things that drive me forward in my personal and business life towards continual success. I also found great success utilizing concepts found in the Secret, the 8th Habit from Effectiveness to Greatness and Eat that Frog so you will see that a large part of what you will read will have a good deal of its base from those concepts.

Five steps to behavior modification
I thought as we quickly approach a new year and with it usually comes various new year resolutions. So in the spirit of finally taking the weight off or finally quit smoking or whatever it may be here are five steps to help you achieve more in your life. At each step you will find proven tools and techniques for enhancing your performance and facilitate lasting lifestyle changes.
Step One - Vision
Clarifying your ultimate ambitions
Successful people know what they want from life. Their lives are characterized by a sense of passion, purpose and meaning. those who are certain about what they want to accomplish are up top six times more likely to successfully make life changes than those who are less certain. Sit down and clearly state what it is you want and ask yourself why each time. This will help get to the root of your goal and help you focus on the importance of achieving this vision.
Step Two - Strategy
Turning lofty ambitions into consistent action.
Success requires a strategy for making your vision come to life. People who engage in higher level visionary thinking as well as lower level strategy thinking, accomplish more than those who consistently think at either level alone. You have to do both! Once you know what the vision is you have to set the appropriate course to get there. Properly set personal goals channel effort, increase motivation and perfect performance and they intensify the effort towards strategy adjustments and fine tuning. quite simply after setting challenging goals, people think longer, harder and more creatively about how to achieve them.
Step Three - Belief
Minimizing fear, uncertainty and doubt.
You must truly believe that you can implement your strategies and achieve your vision. This is all about self confidence, self efficacy, hope and locus of control. Not focus of control. Locus of control. I didn't get it the first time either. Locus of control is a theory in personality psychology referring to the extent to which individuals believe that they can control events that affect them. Understanding of the concept was developed by Julian B. Rotter in 1954, and has since become an important aspect of personality studies.
Bottom line here is belief is one of the most powerful predictors of change and success. those who truly believe they will be successful are more likely to work hard, be happy, set more new goals, persist in the face of hurdles and react better to difficult situations.
Step Four - Persistence
Drive and determination
Successful people work hard, and rebound from setbacks. In essence they persist! People who successfully maintain their new years resolution for more than the first year although they may have a dozen or more slips they use those setbacks to strengthen their commitment. Work hard on your journey and allow yourself a few appropriate rewards for staying on track along the way.
Step Five - Learning
Making course corrections
Successful people record what they are doing to achieve their vision and measure the progress towards those goals to get there.Analyze your progress to determine which goals you are progressing towards and which goals require new strategies or additional effort. Examining trends over time may reveal additional patterns where you may be slipping. For example if it is weight loss you may find that you are on course during the week but over the weekend you go off the plan. This would call for course corrections where you may double your efforts on cardio over the weekend or build a strategy for preparing enough healthy meals during the week for the weekend to eat at home versus eating out.
I read something in a personal training text book of all places that is very powerful when you really think about it. It says that true success in life is not rare because of the fact that people are week or lazy or lack willpower or fear success. Rather, true success is rare because too often people used flawed strategies for success. I also observe where we are so busy for the quick result that we often times jump from one flavor of the month fad to the next without evoking the proven strategies given above.
Happy Holidays Everyone!
